After the success of our first summer school, HATWALK Summer School 2008 brings a choice of 5 classes for beginners through to experienced milliners. All courses (except the study day) will take place at Edinburgh's Telford College, 350 Granton Road, Edinburgh EH5 1QE

Getting started in millinery, the basics

For anyone who wants to learn the basic techniques used in the wonderful art of millinery. We will be using traditional materials such as buckram, felt, sinamay and wire. The aim is to create a unique headpiece or hat using the skills you have acquired during the course.

DEVELOPING
Making a felt hat from start to finish

7th & 8th August, 10:00 am till 5:00 pm

For people who want to learn to make a felt hat- this will including blocking and trimming. You will be able to choose the style and shape depending on the blocks available.

EVOLVING
Making a fantasy headpiece

Some experience required. Suitable for teachers

MASTERING
Theatrical millinery with Jane Smith, London

Jane Smith is undoubtedly one of the UK's most talented theatrical milliner. She will be teaching the art of stitched strip straw so if you want to create a bonnet or boater, now's the time.
